For these works are the best selling in the genre, and offer to you the cream of the crop. Take your time looking over these works, as you do not want to miss out on a hidden gem!

One of the most comical science fiction pieces out there is, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy , by Douglas Adams. You can read my reviews and comment on your view of this book there, but steer clear of the film, as it is certainly not what Douglas Adams had in mind when writing the book. For the honest meaning of what was originally created, read the book!

Ahh! A new hit from british author, Peter F. Hamilton. The guy is one of my favourites. Pandoras Star - Including rejuvenation, wormhole tech and aliens.

An author who really pushed the boundaries of science fiction is Frank Herbert, with 'The Road to Dune' . Take in all the sagas of Paul Atreides on the desert planet of Arrakis. If you enjoy reading about the universe and its unknown secrets, sequels were written, although it is said that many argue that they are of no comparison to the original novel, especially those written after Frank Herbert died.

A true classic, written in 1948, is, 1984 by George Orwell. by George Orwell. This book is one of my favorites. George Orwell outlines the dystopia world of the future in his own unique tone. The torture scenes nearer the end of the book are a little too much to bear however!

Consider Phlebas is a scientific novel that was originally published in 1987. It is based off space opera and it was written by the Scottish writer Iain M Banks.

In other areas of the Science Fiction genre, we have, Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley, which describes how the future is, yet with a more positive outlook, but there is a dash of irony included.

Ever thought about how teenage slang is going to sound in the future? Or have you thought about what violence may be like in years to come? If so, you certainly need to check out, A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess , by Anthony Burgess, though Malcolm Mcdowell did a great job in the film, I recommend trying the book instead. That is, if you have the patience to read the language of tomorrow's teens! It's a challenge, but I think you're up to it.

If you've ever thought about what it would be like to colonize another planet, then it's hugely recommended that you read, Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. , by Kim Stanley Robinson. An incredibly well written, and very thorough book which was followed by two sequels and a collection of related short stories.

A superb military SciFi novel is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. It's on many a fan's list of must-read books, and is often the No. 1 book on these lists! It is also known to be one of the best selling Science Fiction books available.

This one is in the SciFi-horror genre: The Day of the Triffids, by John Wyndham, , is an action-packed horror piece of art.

Instead of watching the movie Bladerunner, try, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Philip K. Dick, , by Philip K. Dick, and see the parts that were missing in the film. Ridley Scott did, however, he did an amazing job with the setting in the film.

One of the,'founding fathers', of Science Fiction and the creator of the '3 laws of robots.' The amazing series, Foundation, by Isaac Asimov, , by Isaac Asimov, is one of the best series in the Science Fiction genre.

Cities in Flight, by James Blish , by James Blish, is a series consisting of four novels, and has inspired and influenced many enthusiastic writers. It is filled with ideas of the future.

The Cat Who Walks through Walls is an incredible sci-fi adventure. It's one of those novels that you will struggle to put down and it's written by Robert Heinlein,
A winner of several awards, including the Hugo and Nebula awards,'Forever Peace', by Joe Haldeman. His most famous novel is,'Forever War', but I chose, Forever Peace, by Joe Haldeman. His most famous novel is Forever War, but I chose Forever Peace.

In 1984 (the year made famous by George Orwell), William Gibson wrote, 'Neuromancer' Neuromancer, the first Cyperpunk novel, , the first Cyberpunk novel, and started a whole new genre where cyberspace is a main character.

In this great list of Science Fiction works, you will find at least a few books which meet your taste, and you will never feel the same about the genre again, as it now will be your favourite of all! The trouble with SciFi is that once you start, you can't stop, so it leads you into a never ending journey, which only expands your mind, thoughts and imagination. Science fiction has always been around, people often create theories and stories about the future, even more so now than ever before. Most of the new films we see have been made from books, or come from the idea once wrote about in a book.

People have their own opinions when debating on films and books in the science fiction genre, yet the strongest pro for books, is that you can create your own film in your head of what you are reading.
