This work was appreciated, and it has helped him to set his future.

At his age of sixteen, Orson Scott Card first portrayed an innovative battle school that he wished his readers to get familiar with. He then got back to this idea of the battle school after several years, when he sat to write a short story that could be published. This fantasy, called by name "Ender's Game" was then published in Analog in August, 1977. Card had won the Campbell award for the best new science fiction writer through his first science fiction story, “Ender’s Game”.

Writing Style

Card has an exquisite writing style and he is well known for the inventive plots he includes into his writing. He is skilled enough to give due importance to the other features of writing also, like character development. However, in all his works, his plot lines have been constantly convincing and exclusive. The Ender’s Game and few more of his initial works included quite a lot on plot and action. Through years of writing, his style has matured and the shift of focus from plot to character development and settings is clearly visible in the recent books he has written.

Ender’s Game still remains as Card’s most noted writing. A few of its follow-ups have also been science fiction novels in the true sense. However, his range of writing is not completely limited to science fiction alone. There are a number of novels, such as Lost Boys, Homebody, and Treasure Box that include broad character development and investigation of moral quandary amidst ghost stories from the long past. Yet another noteworthy, contemporary novel from Orson Scott Card is Enchantment . This has been an exclusively designed fantasy novel that brings together a modern day setting into the traditional fairy tale setting of Sleeping Beauty.

Variety in Writing

Another area that Card has set his foot into is alternate history. The novels, The Redemption of Christopher Columbus, Pastwatch, and The Tales of Alvin Maker series are based on alternate history. Pastwatch is an interesting story in which the time travelers from the future of the Earth attempt to obstruct Columbus’ attempts to discover America. The Tales of Alvin Maker is another interesting read. This is a fantasy series that has been written as an alternative version of the American border, where the supernatural actually works.

Card has put in efforts to even share his writing skills and talent with others. He has presented to the world, two books about writing; Character and Viewpoint and How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy, which received Hugo award in 1991. He has also conducted writing courses at different universities and workshops around the country.
