Best science fiction films

I have seen a lot of science fiction films . Some were good, some bad, some were absolutely AWESOME, and some were horrible. I've enjoyed a lot of them, avoided others, and some were so bad they had to be watched with friends so we could laugh at them together. (Remember Mystery Science Theater 3000? Yeah, like that.) So I have some idea of what's out there. To help you when you're in the search for the best science fiction films or true quality movies, I’ve come up with a list of movies I recommend. Some are must-see classics, some are just personal favorites. I also always recommended http://www.imdb.com for more information on movies, but let the über-geek (that would be me) share some in depth nerding.

Alien (1979) - This movie is over 30 years old, and it still can scare the pants off of you.

Iron Sky - be your own producer (2012) This is an upcoming movie where evil space nazis want's to take over the world (what else?) - this is highly interesting because the movie is partly funded by - you!

Stalker (1979) - Based loosely on the short story "Roadside Picnic," this movie was made by Andrei Tarkovskey. While it is not exactly the same as the short story, it holds its own as a great SciFi thriller.

The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - This follow up to Star Wars must be one of the best in the series. It includes Iceplanet, Cloud City and the best pick up line by Darth Vader - ever!

Back to the Future II (1989) - Time travel in a Delorean, and focus on a Sports Almanac. A sequel better than the first one.

The Matrix (1999) - Visit a world where nothing is as it seems, even reality.

V for Vendetta is a great movie in the spirit of 1984 of the fight against an oppressive government which is no longer serving the people as it should.

In the article Comedy science fiction films I make a comparison of different genres and movies.

Jurassic Park (1993) is probably the greatest dinosaur movie of all time, and the science in it is scary. You'll be glad it's still Science Fiction and not fact!
